LONG TERM THERAPY K9

How many people find their lives completely and permanently disrupted and changed because of a disease, a stroke, or some disability that they never knew they had until, through a catastrophic occurrence, they find themselves disabled both physically and mentally. So many of these people who have lived fiercely independent and successful lives, now are crippled with a disability that leaves them confused and scared, disoriented , and in great need of understanding, comfort, and sensitive companionship. The present field for Therapy dogs is completely inadequate for these people. The dogs are only minimally trained for basic commands, and rely on their natural calm dispositions to supply love and comfort during a hospital or convalescent home visit. There are no long termed goals which these dogs can fulfill for the recovering, convalescing, or permanently disabled person.

In contrast, our K9s are expertly trained to supply a therapeutic controlled, loving, sensitive companionship and also serve as a Psychiatric Assistant K9. Because they are trained and titled as an Assistance K9 they will be accepted and may accompany their handler wherever needed, and yet, because their main concern is to provide therapeutic and enriched companionship, they are less expensive than other Assistance K9s. It is the perfect solution for those in need of an understanding and trained companion, who can provide the emotional support that they suddenly find an absolute necessity in their lives. Many of these people may have never even owned a dog, however, now they need one, and they need help. This K9 is there for them. From the moment we start training a DOGWISH K9 we are critically sensitive of several qualities we look for in every dog we train as a Service Assistance K9 for the Autistic. Those qualities are listed as:
  • Balanced & Stable
  • Soft disposition
  • Responsive to conditioning
  • Love to work
  • Focus completely on handler
  • Bond closely
  • Capable of handling stress
  • Enjoy learning
  • Good maturity level
  • Love to search and use their nose
  • Love to retrieve
  • Socially confident
We begin immediately teaching our dogs to focus on the handler, ignore distractions, and cut hyper-tension, beginning the process that leads to "brain wave and body functioning" detection and can save and transform lives. In fact, one of the criteria's for certification is proving capability to detect "brain-wave" signals and respond automatically in training. We have greatly reduced and/or resolved the Seizure concerns of every client with whom we have placed a K9. We can use this training for people with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, people that suffer from nervous disorders, panic attack victims, agoraphobics, etc. It is also very important that every dog we train for an individual with Autism be capable of communicating on a non-verbal level.

Most trainers take their dogs to through the first level, or into the second level of performance in dog training. Most Police K9s work on the third level. We take every DOGWISH K9 to the fourth level. It didn't take long to find out that training our K9s to search would be a big plus, so we took a couple of years, trained numerous dogs, and last year were honored for training the top performing Therapy, Service Assistance, Search & Rescue and Police K9 dogs in America. We put the same quality of training into every DOGWISH K9.

We take every case on an individual, custom typed basis, and train each K9 to respond as needed. DOGWISH K9S are Angelsˇ¦the impact they have on the lives of their families is beyond critique.
