  • He is the only child living in his home.
  • He has difficulty making and keeping friends.
  • He would love to have someone around with whom he could communicate with little or nor effort.
  • Nicholas has a difficult time relaxing.
  • He walks on his toes, frequently paces and has difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep.
  • He also has frequent bathroom accidents because he is unable to completely relax.
  • Nicholas is unable to communicate.
  • He is easily frustrated.
  • He experiences sensory overload.
  • He often experiences blank stares (petit mal seizures). During these times he may bite objects or others, hit and/or throw a tantrum.
  • Having a K9 would help him to feel more relaxed and help him to self-regulate easily. The K9 would also be able to detect a seizure or tantrum before it happens.
  • Nicholas does not have safety awareness.
  • He wanders away from his mother when out in public.
  • He tries to get out of the house and out into the street.
  • He does not yet know how to interact with people in public; he may touch or tap them inappropriately.
  • A K9 would keep him safe by alerting his mother or other care taker where he was wandered off to.
  • With a K9, Nicholas would be able to enjoy life more fully.


    • It takes a team of professionals to produce an animal with the level of skills and abilities that are necessary to become and Autism Assistance K-9. A dog like Sparkle would typically cost $30,000. DogWish Foundation has donated $20,000 on Nicholas's behalf. Now we must raise $10,000 to cover the costs of the extensive training that our family must undergo in the next few months to learn how to work together. Then our K9 will provide Nicholas with the unique services that will be possible through their training for him.

    This K9 is trained as a guide dog, a seizure alert K9, a search K9, a psychiatric assistance K9, and more, and was picked out specifically to fit with Nicholas. The K9 is being trained to help and work with us, and DOGWISH has a very impressive record to date for every K9 placed.
