Artie Acevedo
ARTIE ACEVEDO WANTS A NEW LIFE!
In January of 2004 Artie Acevedo was shot for no reason, in a drive-by shooting. The official Police investigation found no apparent link between Artie and people almost killed him.
Now, four years later, while working at the Whittier YMCA, Artie heard about The DOGWISH Foundation from a family with a trained K9. They told Artie how the new addition to their family was changing their lives in many positive ways. They told Artie he should call and talk to Bob Taylor about training his own dog Sirus to be a Service Assistance K9 for him.
Artie came out the DOGWISH Headquarters on May 5th, 2008, and signed up to have his dog trained to go with and help him as his personal K9. Sirus went through a battery of tests, and passed with very high marks. This is especially unusual because Sirus is an American Staffordshire Terrier, and his breed has earned a menacing reputation. However Sirus is quite a dog, very balanced, very intelligent, and very loving. We have to equate part of the success for Sirus to Artie who is a very good dog owner. Artie has shown through his raising Sirus an unusual ability to work with animals.
For this reason the Board of Directors and Training Staff of DOGWISH Foundation have unanimously agreed to accept Artie Acevedo as a candidate for the Professional Dog Trainers Academy at the UNITED STATES Canine Academy, where all their K9s are trained.
Artie will be trained to work with dogs, learning K9 Psychology and Evaluation, complete obedience, K9 Search and Detection, Sight Assistance, Hearing Assistance, Service Assistance K9 work and Police Protection work, and will be a Certified Professional Trainer, capable of helping DOGWISH with the work they are doing for the disabled community world wide.
Artie needs your help, because the Academy is not free. Even with a large discount and grant from DOGWISH, Artie still needs to come up with $5,000.00. Artie needs your donations to make it happen.
